Rick Santorum Equates Same-Sex Marriage to Incest (Again) and Out-of-Wedlock Birthrates

Man-on-dog Ricky Sanatorium (R) has once again equated a loving same-sex relationship to incest and equates same-sex marriage to skyrocketing birthrates in Norway. Ricky authored a rant today in the Philadelphia Inquirer regarding the California Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriage. From TP:

Sanatorium: Look at Norway. It began allowing same-sex marriage in the 1990s. In just the last decade, its heterosexual-marriage rates have nose-dived and its out-of-wedlock birthrate skyrocketed to 80 percent for firstborn children.

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can’t love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too? Marriage is and always has been more than the acknowledgment of the love between two people.

And poor whiddle Ricky wonders why he got his arse handed to him in the 2006 elections. Anywhoooo, can someone explain: 1) What does out-of-wedlock birthrates have to do with gay marriage? 2) What does a loving same-sex couple have to do with incest? Is this the right-wing vision for “love”? Sickos. Really. Sick, sick, sick…..

NJ Civil Unions in Effect Today

As of midnight this morning, civil unions have officially become recognized in the state of New Jersey.

“The civil unions, which offer the legal benefits but not the title of marriage, were granted automatically to the hundreds of gay New Jersey couples who had previously been joined in civil unions or married in other states or nations.”

New Jersey is now the third state to recognize civil unions, following Connecticut and Vermont.

A handful of town halls opened their doors at 12:01 this morning to accomodate those seeking to apply for a license. New Jersey has a 72-hour waiting period, so those new applicants will not be able to hold their ceremonies until the waiting period is up.

While the civil union law is not considered “equal” by many advocates, including the ACLU, this is a positive step forward in recognizing the rights of all.

Rep Ackerman: Pentagon More Afraid of Gay People Than Terrorists

Rep. Gary Ackerman took on Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice yesterday during her testimony while discussing the State Department’s 2008 budget.

During the discussion, Rice claimed the State Department “repeatedly emphasized the importance of recruiting qualified language experts to work in the agency.” Ackerman in response brought up the 322+ language specialists with “‘some skills in an important foreign language such as Arabic, Farsi and Korean’ had been discharged from the military since the ban’s inception in 1993.”

Ackerman then said the Pentagon “’seems more afraid of gay people than they are [of] terrorists,’ and that if the terrorists were smart, ‘they’d get a platoon of lesbians to chase us out of Baghdad.’”

Ackerman is one of the first Congressmen to call the Administration and the Pentagon out on this appalling decision-making, and did so with great wit. We need more Congressmen like Ackerman! (H/T to ThinkProgress – who also has the video of the exchance)

Wing-nuttery 101: Ex-Gay Video

Sadly, this video is for real and not some attempt at a bad joke.

From Pam’s House Blend:

…well, there are no words to explain this “ex-gay” music video — The Bible Says (God Hates a Fag), by Donnie Davies and Evening Service (hailing from south Houston). This is so campy it has to be a joke, but he plays it straight — so to speak.

From Donnie Davies’ bio:

I am in fact a Reformed Homosexual and I’m trying to let people know that there is an escape from being Gay. By letting people know that “God hates a Fag” I am doing Gods work, I’m preaching.

When I was in highschool I kept having feelings for the boys I was in school with. Often I would let these feelings take over. I got into lots of trouble when I was Gay.

As always, Jesus’ General has a wonderful retort for the despicable Donnie Davies.

Update II (Jan 26th, 12:22 PM ET):
It appears the Google Video has removed the video as well (YouTube yanked it earlier this week).

BTW, anyone else think this is just a hoax? I don’t think this is for real at all. I think this guy is coming off a bit too fruity with his pink shirt and his overtly and over-the-top anti-gay message. My prediction: This will be exposed as joke/fraud eventually.

Seriously, where did this guy come from? All of sudden he pops up out of the blue with this corny video and website. I just find this hard to believe that he is for real. I certainly do believe many right-wing nuts believe the message of this video, but not in this case.

Gay Marriage Ban Dropped

Sen. Wayne Allard (R-CO) and Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), the two leading advocates of amending the US Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, “say they have no plans to make a third try to advance the proposal.” “If we thought there was a decent chance to bring it to the floor for debate, I would, but with the new Congress, I’m not sure we will ever have that opportunity,” Allard says.

Perhaps these two wing-nuts will now focus instead on other crucial and important legislation like deporting them darned gay, flag burning, illegal Mexicans who show their nipples on T.V.

NJ Governor Signs Civil Unions Law

As I mentioned last week, the NJ state Senate passed a law that would entitle same sex couples all the rights entitled to married couples.

Today, Governor Corzine signed the bill into law, making New Jersey the third state to provide civil unions for same sex couples.

During the ceremony, Corzine said, “We must recognize that many gay and lesbian couples in New Jersey are in committed relationships and deserve the same benefits and rights as every other family in this state.”

The law goes into effect February 19th, 2007 and after that date these civil unions will entitle same sex couples to “adoption, inheritance, hospital visitation, medical decision-making and alimony rights and the right not to testify against a partner in court.”

This might be the best Christmas present I’ve ever gotten: tolerance.
